Prosecutor

2023 Summer Associate

Marshall, Gerstein & Borun LLP is a Chicago-based intellectual property law firm with over 85 attorneys, highly qualified patent agents, and technical specialists, all dedicated to providing superior intellectual property counseling. We specialize in prosecution and litigation in all areas of intellectual property law. We litigate nationwide, primarily within the federal court system, and obtain patents and trademark registrations for our clients in the United States and foreign patent and trademark offices.

We look for candidates with bright legal minds and demonstrated technical ability. The ideal candidate enjoys a thirst for learning, has a dedicated work ethic, and an ability to work effectively in teams. Each candidate should have at least one technical/science degree, with an advanced degree preferred. In rare cases, we will consider exceptional candidates without such degrees, but with otherwise demonstrated technical ability. We also appreciate the value diversity builds in our practice of law and look for candidates from diverse backgrounds that can bring a breadth of experience to our team.

Qualified candidates must also possess:

  • Strong academic credentials, which should minimally include a GPA of at least 3.0 in all levels of education
  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in the biotechnology life sciences, mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering or computer science/engineering.
  • Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal—and exceptional research and organizational skills.

During the summer, we expose our summer associates to realistic, substantive legal assignments tackling issues across intellectual property disciplines, including litigation, prosecution, and transactional. We also have many social events throughout the summer that take advantage of the culture and richness of Chicago and that help build camaraderie with our legal professionals.

Qualified individuals interested in this position should forward a curriculum vitae, law school transcripts, and undergraduate/graduate transcripts to Michele J. Gudaitis at mgudaitis@marshallip.com.
